A Writer's Review of Sweet Sanctuary by Kim Vogel Sawyer

{Dawn's Review}

Kim Vogel Sawyer is a  "new author" for me... though I know very well she isn't a "new author" by any means. I think this is her fifteenth book with Bethany House. The reason I finally decided to give her a try was because I was in the mood for a WWII romance. There aren't many out there (yet) unless I want to go grab one of my 1940's era Grace Livingston Hill books.

 Sweet SanctuaryI was very pleased with this book, which isn't surprising considering her record as a best-selling author. I loved that there was a past and present friendship between Lydia Eldredge and Dr. Micah Hatcher. I liked them both a lot, though they weren't written nearly as deeply as I usually like. I can tell it's simply the author's style though; she writes sweet romance very well. And considering this was her first try at writing in a new genre (WWII era), she did a superb job at it.

Bethany House Publishers gave me paperback version of this book to read in exchange for my completely honest review. I give Kim Vogel Sawyer's Sweet Sanctuary 4 Stars.

A Story of Hope and Love Set Against the Backdrop of World War II

Lydia Eldredge longs to provide sanctuary for her young son, Nicky. But a constant threat comes from Nicky’s drug-addicted father, who wants the boy and seems willing to do whatever it takes to get him.

Dr. Micah Hatcher faithfully serves the immigrant population of Queens, New York. But under cover of darkness, he has a secret mission that challenges everything he thought he wanted out of life.

When Lydia and Micah’s paths cross, they are suddenly wrapped up in each other’s callings. Together, they seek a refuge of safety–for Nicky, for themselves, and for the needy people God puts into their lives. Amid turmoil and discord, can hope and love prevail?
